15th-17th century AD. An iron side-dressing bearded axe, quadrangular eye, flat butt and a triangular projecting shoulder (wing) on the lower edge of the poll on one side, slightly convex sides of the poll straightening into the cheek, narrowing evenly from the end of the eye to the blade, cutting edge is slightly convex curves; maker's mark on the blade realised with a pair of parallel letters 'KI'. Property of an English gentleman; formerly with a UK gallery, acquired in the 2000s. Bearded axes were used from the late Early Medieval period.
