AN IRON RED AND GILT ‘SEVEN BLOSSOMS’ DISH, KANGXI/YONGZHENG PERIOD China, 1662-1735. Painted in iron-red, gilt, and green enamel details, the center depicting a flower branch within a spearhead border, framed by an underglaze blue decoration of flowers, dragons and phoenixes chasing the flaming pearl, a narrow foliate scroll below the rim, the lip glazed in café au lait. The exterior with three flower branches in iron red.

Provenance: From the collection of Karl Emil Strømstad. Old label to base, ‘Strømstad 435’. Karl Emil Strømstad was an important Norwegian collector of Chinese ceramics. He has written numerous articles on the subject, including ‘Fifty Shades of Green. Den fascinerende celadonkeramikken’, and co-founded the Oriental Ceramic Society of Norway (NSOK). A large part of his collection, which he built from the 1960s onwards, was acquired in London.
Condition: Good condition with some old wear, shallow surface scratches, a hairline to the rim, some manufacturing irregularities such as kiln grit, pitting, and dark spots. The dish slightly warped.

康熙至雍正時期汎紅釉描金開光花卉紋盤
