A BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI, LAN NA KINGDOM
Northern Thailand, 17th century. Seated in virasana atop a tiered and open worked lotus throne with the right hand lowered in bhumisparsa mudra and the left held in dhyana mudra above his lap, his robe draped over the left shoulder, the face with heavy-lidded eyes and full lips, flanked by long pendulous earlobes, the hair arranged in tight curls surmounted by a domed ushnisha.
Provenance: From the collection of Godfried Wauters, acquired in the Parisian trade. Godfried Wauters has been active in the Belgian trade for over 40 years. He has built a substantial art collection including Chinese and Buddhist sculptures, significantly expanding on the collection already built by his late father Gustaaf Wauters (1905-1992).
Condition: Good condition with old wear and casting flaws, ancient repairs, nicks, dents, scratches. Fine, naturally grown patina overall.
