AN INDIAN MINIATURE PAINTING DEPICTING AN ELEPHANT HUNT
India, 18th-19th century. Ink, gold, and pigment on paper. Painted with a seated ruler holding a sword and a broken tusk in his hands, a halo behind his head, and two attendants, one holding a long spear, all above the killed elephant with multiple bleeding wounds and severed trunk, further with a river, two birds, and two mongooses.
Provenance: From an old German private collection, mostly assembled between the 1960s and 1980s.
Condition: Good condition with wear, creases, small losses, possibly minor touchups.
Mounted and framed behind glass.
