A VICTORIAN BELGE NOIR MARBLE MANTEL TIMEPIECE IN THE ANCIENT EGYPTIAN TASTEBARRAUD AND LUNDS, LONDON, CIRCA 1860The circular four pillar single chain fee movement with anchor escapement regulated by lenticular bob pendulum with holdfast beneath signature BARRAUD & LUNDS, CORNHILL, LONDON, 3312 to the backplate, the 3.5 inch circular gilt brass dial with fine foliate scroll engraved centre within Roman numeral chapter ring inscribed BARRAUD, & LUNDS, 41 CORNHILL, LONDON 3312 around the XII numeral and with blued steel hands, set within an engine-milled surround with hinged bevel-glazed cast brass bezel, the case modelled as an ancient Egyptian temple with bold cavetto cornice over stylised balter half columns engraved with scarab beetles and faux hieroglyphs to capitals and parading figures in ceremonial dress to shafts, with sides leaning towards the cornice and with glazed hinged movement aperture to rear, on stepped canted skirt base.26cm (10.25ins) high, 28.5cm (11.25ins) wide, 17cm (6.75ins) deep.Paul Phillip Barraud (born 1752) worked with his father at first until his death in 1795 after which Barraud turned his attention more towards chronometers. ing the valuable experience gained whilst working on Mudge's timekeepers with W.
