PROPERTY FROM A PROMINENT CHINESE-AMERICAN FAMILY A White-glazed Two-handled Censer18th Century Of very slightly oval form, all under a bright white glaze, the rounded globular body with two rows of impressed key-pattern between raised bow-string lines, divided at the widest point by archaic-form dragon-loop handles below an everted rounded rim, the wide foot ring un-glazed, the base glazed. Lotus-form hardwood cover. 5 3/4in (14.6cm) across handles 清中期 白瓷雙耳香爐 後配木蓋 Whilst Dehua blanc-de-chine censer's, datable to 1650-1700, of similar form and decoration are recorded, see P. J. Donnelly, Blanc De Chine , New York, 1969, pl. 11A, with the mark of Hsiao-Shui, (Xiao Shui), the details, proportions and paste of our example bear characteristics that suggest a production date later in the eighteenth century and at a different kiln, perhaps in Jingdezhen. The Dehua precursor's have smaller handle finials and archaistic dragon molding to the central band and a thicker glaze of more creamy tone. For an almost identical example called Dehua, see Sotheby's, New York, 20 March 2019, lot 741.
