Circa 100-200 AD Although headless, this statuette has been finely modelled and the details are striking. He is standing with the weight on his right leg and his left foot drawn back, holding a money bag in his outstretched right hand, formerly cradling a caduceus in his left arm. He is wearing a petasos and chlamys fastened with a pin on his left shoulder, covering his left arm, and falling in long folds down to his knee. For similar see: Cecil H. Smith and C. Amy Hutton, Catalogue of the Antiquities (Greek, Etruscan and Roman) in the Collection of the Late Wyndham Francis Cook, Esquire., London, 1908, p. 70, no. 21, pl. XXVI. Size: L:190mm (with stand) / W:53mm; 1kg Provenance: Property of a London Ancient Art Gallery; formerly in the famous Alison Barker collection, a retired London barrister; acquired between early 1960s to 1990s.
