Circa 1300-1400 AD, Egypt or Syria An important and fine Mamluk Quran Juz section (28 pages). Inscribed in elegant Thuluth script illuminated with gilded ayat dividers. Large roundels chapter markers throughout, gilded and realised in fine materials probably lapis or indigo, malachite paint and saffron amongst others. Inscribed on finely polished wood pulp paper with notes including grammar pronunciation guidance. Probably later tooled leather cover. The quality of the workman indicates a copy crafted for a wealthy patron possibly even the ruling Mamluk elites themselves.
