An ancient Chinese bronze censer with carved wooden cover, dating from Western Zhou dynasty (1046-771 BCE). Straight recessed foot with rounded bowl shape censer above. Two simple archaistic thick handles, with bottom of handle almost at the base level. Handles rest just below the flared mouth. Carved wooden cover with jade finial. Opening: rim to rim, D. 6 1/2" (16.5 cm), H. 4 1/4" (10.8 cm) collection of a private Maryland collector Condition: good condition overall with age related wear and interior distress to the bronze.
