A Chinese bronze covered ding vessel, Warring State Period (5th/4th BCE). An excellently preserved ancient archaic Chinese bronze cauldron,casted with a pair of upright loop handles, supported on three waisted legs, the body and cover decorated with scrolls of stylistic mythical beasts, Cast in low relief with repeating square designs on two bands on the body. The lid has same design of interlocking S shaped dragons. Legs extend from the body of the vessel resembling that of an animal. Overall: D. 9 7/8" (25 cm) H. 8" (20.3 cm) Provenance: collection of Mr Joseph Rodin, New York Condition: good condition overall for age and use, with mottled, grey-green patina of age throughout. A chip in the bronze on the rim in one area.
