EDO PERIOD, EARLY 18TH CENTURYThe baluster body typically decorated in underglaze blue, gilt, red, green and black enamels, painted with three large panels enclosing flowering branches of prunus, chrysanthemum and peony issuing from rocky outcrops, with a border of lappets above the foot, the shoulder with a wide band of scrolling tendrils and chrysanthemum flowerheads, the neck with a repeated design of open fans; the cover with similar decoration and topped by a large bulbous knop; with sixteen-petal chrysanthemums and other flowers moulded in low relief, 70cm overall. (2)Provenance: the collection of Vice-Admiral Reginald Vesey Holt, CB, DSO, MVO, (1884-1957), and thence by descent.Cf.
