(10)Captain Francis Brinkley (1841-1912) was an Anglo-Irish officer and newspaper owner who lived in Japan for more than forty years during the Meiji period. He created the newspaper The Japan Mail and later became the Tokyo correspondent for The Times of London, reporting on the Russo-Japanese War. He published several books on Japan and was the editor for the present publication, a general guide to Japanese culture.
