3rd-2nd century B.C. A silver sword belt strap distributor, the central hubposed of a ring with carinated upper face and four triangular ribbed plaques, a free-running arm to each quarter, each with a square plaque with shallow pyramidal face, attached to an arm at the reverse by a single rivet. Cf. Papanova, V., Lyashko S., 'Findings of weapons and harness in the suburban farmstead of Olbia' in Various, Materials on the Archaeology of the Northern Black Sea Region, volume 13 Odessa, 2015, pp.207-222, fig.3, nos.12-13, for similar horse harness. 52.8 grams, 76 mm (3 in.) Acquired before 1983. Ex London gallery, 1990s. The excavations of the past century in the Northern Area of the Black Sea have evidenced (Shyroka Balka 6 and 7 graves around Olbia) warrior burials with iron blades, bronze and iron arrowheads, sling missiles and horse harnesses, among which four elements of bridle dividers identical to the four triangular ribbed plaques of our artefact.Condition Report: Fine condition.
