As a child, Maximillian Büsser was fascinated by all things automobiles and dreamt of one day becoming a designer of cars. While his life took him along another path and led him to watchmaking at the highest level, we get a glimpse into his incredible passion for supercars with this HMX 10th Anniversary watch. Indeed, the back is inscribed “a creative adult is a child who survived” in recognition of Max Büsser’s childlike sense of wonder that is channelled so successfully through the designs of MB&F’s extraordinary timepieces. A functional precision-engineered work of art, the HMX was co-designed by Max Büsser in collaboration with Eric Giroud. The design and construction, as expected from MB&F, is both innovatory and ingeniously conceived. Taking some of the best elements from MB&F watches of the past 10 years such as the HM5 which was inspired by sports cars of the 1970s, the asymmetric case has a very large curved panel of sapphire on the top that serves to display the movement or “engine” with its covered bridges. The sapphire panel lets in the maximum amount of light so that the numerals on the hour and minute disks are clearly visible. The light bounces off the numerals and is reflected upwards and then at a 90 degree angle to be ‘projected’ outwards by two prisms through the sapphire panel on the side of the watch. A true work of art for the wrist, this HMX driver’s watch is undoubtedly a key piece of MB&F’s history and a statement piece for the collector.
