A HINOKI WOOD SAISHIKI MASK NETSUKE OF OKINASigned Japan, Edo period (1615-1868)Carved from hinoki (cypress) wood, this saishiki netsuke depicts an Okina mask with classical facial features, the eyebrows in the form of circular tufts, a broad nose, the mouth slightly open, revealing two teeth which are pierced, as are the nostrils and the eyes. The himotoshi bridge at the backside and the artist signature incised on the bridge as well.HEIGHT 3.9 cmCondition: Fine condition with traces of wear and age, with some losses to the paintwork. Provenance: European private collection.
