Ɏ TOMOTSUGU: AN IVORY NETSUKE OF A SMOKING MANBy Tomotsugu, signed Tomotsugu Japan, around 1850, Edo period (1615-1868)The ivory netsuke depicting a seated man, wearing traditional Japanese garment and headdress, smoking his pipe with an amusing facial expression, while holding an inscribed Tonkotsu in his left hand. Two himotoshi at the backside and the engraved signature TOMOTSUGU inside a lobed cartouche on the underside.HEIGHT 4.5 cmCondition: Good condition with minor traces of wear and age, restoration to left foot.Provenance: Notable European collection.Trade Certificate: In accordance with new EU regulations that went into effect in January 2022, we have applied for a certificate to sell this item within the EU.
