Ɏ ICHIEISAI KOMIN: AN IVORY MANJU NETSUKE DEPICTING SHOKI AND KOINOBORI (CARP STREAMER)By Ichieisai Komin, signed Ichieisai Komin 一永齋孝民 with kakihanJapan, Edo (Tokyo), c. 1830, Edo period (1615-1868)Of thick, circular form with a central himotoshi peg, carved in relief with a grim-looking Shoki looking toward a large koinobori (carp streamer) fluttering in the wind (presumably an oni hides within), the reverse incised with a hut as well as the signature ICHIEISAI KOMIN with kakihan.DIAMETER 5.3 cmCondition: Good condition with some surface wear, expected age cracks, a small chip to the himotoshi peg. Fine, smooth, honey-yellow patina.Provenance: European collection.Trade Certificate: In accordance with new EU regulations that went into effect in January 2022, we have applied for a certificate to sell this item within the EU.
