The race ran from 1970 - 1990. The initial prize for winning the race was £10,000, rising to £30,000. The winner was also presented with a trophy, in the form or an ewer and two goblets designed by Jussuf Huessein Abbo. The ewer was handed back each year, but the goblets were retained by the winner. This lot is accompanied by race cards from the 1979 and 1981 races, which shows identical trophy cups on the front covers.
