A HEAVY GAUGE REPOUSSE SILVER OFFERING BOWL, THABEIK WITH AN INSCRIPTION IN POLISH ‘ZESPOŁOWA NAGRODA WYCHOWANIA FIZYCZ DELEGATA MINISTRA W.R.O.P. W JEROZOLIMIE ROK 1944’ BURMA (MYANMAR), SHAN STATE, EARLY 20TH CENTURY With a flat foot and a globular body. Adorned in deep repousse with battle scenes with oriental archers wearing tiara as well as various trees, including palm trees. The base is engraved with a landing bird. There is a Polish inscription on the rim: ‘Zespołowa Nagroda Wychowania Fizycz Delegata Ministra W.R.O.P. (sic. for WRiOP) w Jerozolimie Rok 1944’ (lit. in English: Team Award for Physical Education of the Delegate of the Minister W.R.O.P. (sic. for WRiOP - i.e. Department of Fine Arts of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Public Education) in Jerusalem 1944’. The workmanship is particularly crisp and detailed. H: 11,5 cm - D: 17,8 cm Weight: 546,7 grams Note: This piece may be arguably a piece of Polish history. It seems to be linked with a Polish kindergarten in exile for orphans (as well as for soldiers of the 3rd DSK that interrupted their education in high school) during World War II supervised by the Department of Fine Arts of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Public Education (WRiOP) in exile in London. Their main task was to prepare preschool children for studying in the public primary school and they played an important role in upbringing and caring for the youngest generation of Polish refugees, protected them against losing the national identity and gave them the sense of warmth and stability during the war exile. Kindergartens in exile finished their activity in the years 1945-1947 when particular colonies of Polish refugees were being closed. NOTE: CONDITION REPORTS AND MEASUREMENTS It is up to the bidder to satisfy themselves prior to buying as to the condition of a lot. In relation to Condition Reports, whilst we make certain observations on the lot, which are intended to be as helpful as possible, references in the condition report to damage or restoration are for guidance. The absence of such a reference does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of any others. The condition report is an expression of opinion only and must not be treated as a statement of fact. Measurements and weight are approximate and the potential bidder may re-ask it to be checked when asking for a condition report.
