Spanish photographer, scholar and painter specialising in landscapes, Antonio Cánovas del Castillo (better known as Vascano) was director of La Correspondencia de España Ilustrada, deputy to the Cortes for Cieza (Murcia), civil governor of Málaga and founder of the Dalton Kaulak photographic gallery in Madrid and the magazine La Fotografía. After studying law in Madrid, he joined the studio of Carlos de Haes. He was also a regular contributor to numerous publications, including La Época.
