Father of the also painter Lluis Rigalt, Pau Rigalt was a painter, decorator and scenographer. A pupil of Joseph Flaugier, he became one of the driving forces behind Neoclassicism in Catalonia, paving the way for the generation of landscape painters who were to follow, especially Martí Alsina. From 1840 he began to teach at the Escola de la Lonja in Barcelona.
