A good and rare 19th century 8-day mahogany marine chronometer with power reserve aperture and integral winding keyBarraud, Cornhill, London. Numbered 2/975The three part case with solid top lid and centre section with an ivory signature and number plaque, the lower section with inlaid brass escutcheon and hinged handles. The 5 inch signed and numbered silvered Roman dial with running seconds at XII over a curved aperture revealing the power reserve, with blued steel spade hands. The 3/4 plate lacquered movement with 3 tall ringed pillars supporting the spring barrel, the chain and the fusee (with maintaining power); the free sprung blued steel helical balance spring with diamond endstone to a compensated bimetallic balance with large timing screws and Earnshaw type spring detent escapement set on a sub-plate, set in a weighted, gimballed bowl punch numbered 2/975. Together with integral winding key, two associated hand setting keys and a case key. 22.5cms (8.5ins) wide.
