Northern Italian School, mid-18th century. "Portrait of a gentleman. Oil on canvas. Re-drawn. Frame of the 20th century. Following models of the XVIIIth century. Measurements: 111 x 58,5 cm; 130 x 105 cm (frame). Oval portrait of an eighteenth-century aristocrat painted by a painter contemporary to the personage, being a painting of the Italian Settecento. The figure, wearing a powdered wig as was fashionable among the noble classes and royalty of the time, poses before the viewer with a frontal, haughty gaze, in keeping with his rank, as does his sumptuous costume. She wears a fitted dress, adorned with trimmings around the white buttons and fine lace on the pleated sleeves. Each fabric has been reproduced with great sensitivity and attention to the right qualities and textures: transparent gauze, fine cotton, the shimmering velvet of the draped cloth that envelops the figure.... The gentleman holds a flower in his right hand while his left forearm rests on a moulded piece of furniture.
