40 x 62 x 35 cm.
Spanish bargueño from the 17th century. Walnut wood. Bone marquetry. Measurements: 40 x 62 x 35 cm. This piece of furniture has a prismatic structure, typical of the Baroque bargueño. It is organised in three streets, the lateral ones occupied each one by three drawers, leaving in the centre a niche that gives the whole a decorative scheme inspired by architecture. Solomonic columns flank each of the small drawers. The marquetry combines fruitwoods, ebony and inlaid bonewood in beautiful geometric decorations, with the keyholes surrounded by rhomboidal iron plafonds. The bowl has iron handles on the sides for easy transport. The decorative richness of architectural inspiration, populated by small columns, is typical of the bargueños from Salamanca, which are also known as "de columnillas" (with small columns). This model spread throughout Spain in the 17th century.
