此碗外施红釉，内施白釉，色泽均匀，沉静莹润，富丽华贵。有清一代，霁红釉之烧造当以雍正朝为最，尤得雍正帝钟爱。据《清宫造办处活计清档》记载，雍正七年“八月十七日，据圆明园来帖内称本月十四日郎中海望持出碎霁红瓷盘边五块。奉旨：此釉水甚厚，新烧的甚薄，不知是何原故，尔将此破瓷发给年希尧去，着伊照此破瓷釉水烧造，钦此。”可见雍正帝对红釉器的重视程度。
