French school; 16th century. "Saint crowned by angels". Watercolour on parchment. It has humidities that have caused wear and pictorial losses. Measurements: 29 x 21,5 cm (total). Inscribed in a B conceived as a capitular letter we can observe a devotional image, whose protagonist is a Franciscan saint. The religious man is kneeling, with his gaze raised towards a floral wreath rising from the golden sky. The work is accompanied by a legend, which comes from the lips of the saint, in which we can read. "O Qual flores habet Paradisus. The scene is completed by the presence of a cross, which is placed in the lower right area, next to the saint and a rosary hanging from the Franciscan`s hand, thus reinforcing the idea of his union with God through prayer. These works are called codex miniae, which were handwritten and illustrated books that were produced in the "Scriptorium" or specialised workshops of the monasteries by monks of great artistic and doctrinal qualification for the monasteries themselves, the churches and the kings.
