A RARE GREEN-GLAZED BELL-SHAPED CUP, TANG DYNASTY China, 618-907. Of deep, rounded form with everted rim, supported on a flared circular foot, the exterior impressed with three concentric bands of dimpled circles, the interior with splashed green glaze forming diagonal stripes, covered overall with a green glaze.

Provenance: From an old Rhenish private collection, Germany, assembled during the 1980s and 1990s.
Condition: Some ancient wear, few chips to rim and foot, and minor touch-ups. Commensurate with age and exactly as expected from an authentic Tang dynasty excavation.

Compare a closely related amber glazed cup, dated to the 8^th century, Tang dynasty, the interior glazed green, in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, accession number FE.162-1974. I, Pottery and Early Wares, London, 1915, pl. 11, fig. 1.
