A 17th-18th century sailor`s chest. Wood, with polychrome lid on the inner side. Original lock. Loose upper lid. The lower lid is later. It shows wear due to use and the passage of time. Traces of xylophages. With faults in the wood and in the polychromy. Measurements: 48 x 118 x 50 cm. The "sailor`s" chest was used by sailors to store their belongings during their long voyages at sea. This chest has a hand-painted scene on the inside of the lid, featuring Pulcinella, or a character inspired by the Commedia dell`Arte, and her companion, walking under a starry sky. The shape of the piece is rectangular, prismatic, with a double lid.
