Catalan or Aragonese school of the second half of the 18th century. "Apparition of the Virgin and Child to Saint Peter Faverio". Oil on canvas. Relined. Frame from the 19th century. With some lack in the polychromy and damages. Measurements: 83 x 64 cm; 100 x 80 cm (frame). The work we are dealing with narrates the moment in which Pedro Faverio, a man with a reputation for holiness and wisdom appointed in 1319 procurator of the Carthusian monks before Pope Clement V, rests gravely ill in his bed. It was at that moment that he was overcome by fears of his eternal salvation, personalised by diabolical beings under his bed. These beings were frightened away by the apparition of the Virgin and Child, on this occasion also depicted with an Archangel. The Prado Museum houses the work of the same name by Vicente Carducho, an Italian painter who was a prolific and influential figure at the Madrid court.
