Trumeau mirror. France, 18th century. Carved and gilded wood. With period engraving on the top. Original moon. It shows wear due to use and time. Measurements: 135 x 75 x 18 cm. The rectangular mirror is housed in a first moulded and gilded wooden frame, with columns on the sides. The upper part houses a classical engraving flanked by pilasters. The piece culminates in a cornice from which spheres hang. The trumeau mirror originated in 18th-century France and owes its name to the place it was intended for, the space between two windows. This situation multiplied the light in the room, both because of the reflections of the mirrored surface and because of the gilt carvings that often decorated the frames, which shone in the light. This type of mirror is usually rectangular, and usually has an ornamental area at the top.
