**First Time At Auction** Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A fine pair of faience amulets: a wadjet or eye of Horus and a wadj papyrus column. An ancient ocular symbol of protection, the wadjet is enveloped in sky blue glaze and finely incised with the eye components on one side with the pupil delineated by black glaze. A lateral drill hole perforates the eye amulet for suspension. Alternatively, the wadj papyrus column or scepter exhibits a hue of seafoam green and a conical body surmounted by a suspension loop; "wadj" is the name of the plant that papyrus was made from. Size of larger (wadj papyrus column): 1.6" L x 0.3" W (4.1 cm x 0.8 cm) Provenance: ex-Natalie Capron, Vermont, USA, 1972 to 2008, now by her heirs; ex-Maurice Crandall, Vermont, 1941 to 1972; ex-Clyde du Vernet Hunt, Vermont, 1916 to 1941; ex-Katherine Jarvis Hunt, Vermont, 1907 to 1916; ex-Leavitt Hunt, Vermont, collected 1851 to 1852 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. Minor chip to black glaze on wadjet. Otherwise, both are intact, excellent, and wearable as pendants with nicely preserved pigments. Old collection label on verso of wadjet.
