Ink and color on silk, mounted as a scroll painting in a silk brocade
frame. China, Qing dynasty, likely late 18th century
Depiction of Caishen, the Chinese god of wealth, dressed in a green
draped robe with wide sleeves and with official’s headdress. His right
hand holding a scroll in a little bag. On his raised left hand, he is
holding a circular pedestal with a miniature jade rock among waves and
in ‘Lingzhi’-shaped clouds with a central swastika. On the scroll
inscribed ‘MYTHICAL EMPEROR MING’.
Shape: Rectangular vertical shape
Dimensions: 57 x 36,5 cm (painting size)
Condition: Age-related condition, partly cracks and wear, the lower part
of the painting with dark stain and slightly ripped, the lower part of
the mounting is missing.
