(2)This pair of earrings is remarkable for its size and good state of preservation. The motif of two confronting birds was common in Byzantine jewellery (Rachel Hasson, Early Islamic Jewellery, Jerusalem, 1987, no. 3, pl. 13) and was also a popular motif in Seljuk jewellery.
