A Chinese Gilt bronze Buddha figure, dating from the Tang dynasty (618-906). Standing on a low lotus platform the Buddha stands in royal robes and long beaded necklace. Left hand is held upwards, carefully holding a pointed disc. Right hand in the Prana Mudra, said to activate dormant energy in the body. Prana is the vital life force within all living things.H. 5" (12.7 cm)Provenance: Collection of James Marshall Plumber (1899-1960) thence by descentCondition: good condition with patina of age on the figure, and loss of gilding.
