A Chinese gilt bronze mahakala figure, dating from the 18th century. standing on an elephant headed prostrate figure on an lotus base, the left arms raised before chest holding an ornament, the right arm holding high up with an sword,above a garland of skulls around the round belly, the fierce three eyed face with exaggerated features, surmounted by a crown of skulls and flaming hair,figure and base are cast separately,heavily and finely cast with finely incised detailsH. 7 1/2" (19 cm)Provenance: Collection of James Marshall Plumber (1899-1960) thence by descent Similar Mahakala Buddha was sold in Sotheby's Hong Kong on 25 May 2022, China/ 5000Years Sale ,Lot 581 for 151,200 HKDCondition: good condition overall with wear to the gilt bronze and losses to the hard stone inlays
