Description A HIDA SCHOOL WOOD NETSUKE AND A CERAMIC NETSUKE OF DARUMAJapan, late 19th century, Meiji period (1868-1912)The first a wood netsuke depicting Daruma completely enveloped in his robe, holding a hossu (Buddhist flywhisk) and depicted with a comically sorrowful expression, executed in ittobori style (carved with a single knife or cutting edge). Himotoshi through the back and underside, the wood stained with details such as the mouth and hossu in gold and red pigments.The second a ceramic netsuke of circular flattened form, depicting Daruma completely enveloped in his robe, shown meditating with a stern-faced expression, the backside with two symmetrical himotoshi. Glazed in red, white, and brown.HEIGHT 3.8 and 3.9 cmCondition: Very good condition with minor surface wear.Provenance: European collection.
