A ‘LUDUAN’ BRONZE CENSER, CHINA, 17TH CENTURYThe beast is heavily cast standing foursquare, the detachable single-horned head is hinged from the front and is set with bulging eyes, an open mouth revealing sharp fangs, and a curling mane. The body is decorated with swirling scrolls wrapping around the feet.Provenance: Austrian private collection.Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, few small losses, and casting flaws. Good patina, naturally grown with malachite and cuprite encrustations.
