A SANDSTONE FIGURE OF A MALE DEITY, ANGKOR WAT PERIOD, BAPHUON STYLEKhmer Empire, late 11th century. Standing in samabhanga, dressed in a sampot, tied at the front with folds splayed across the left thigh and secured with a belt, a butterfly element to the reverse, the upper body incised with a belly button and adorned with jeweled collars spanning across the shoulder and just below the chest, the face with almond-shaped eyes, broad nose, full lips framed by a mustache, flanked by elongated earlobes suspending conical earrings, the head surmounted by a foliate tiara and conical headdress.Provenance: From the collection of René Ronveaux (d. 1991), Belgium, probably acquired in the 1970s and thence by descent in the same family. A copy of a provenance statement, written and signed by the previous owner, dated 8 December 2022, confirming the provenance stated above, apanies this lot.Condition: Good condition,mensurate with age.
