A FOUR-TIERED LACQUERED BAMBOO BETEL BOX, KUN-IT, 1900-1960Burma.prising two stackable trays with a base and cover, finely painted overall in red, black, green, and yellow. The top of the lid depicts the “eight days of the week” design centered by a mythical bird. The side of the lid is decorated with the symbols of the twelve months, all executed in the yun (incised) technique. The interior is coated in cinnabar red.Provenance: From a German private collection, assembled in the 1990s, and thence by descent in the same family.Condition: Very good condition, few expected age cracks, minor nicks and chips, small lacquer flakes, and few small losses.
