Ca. 350-300 BC. An exquisite Apulian bell krater with its surface area painted via the red-figure technique with added fugitive yellow pigment. Side A features a seated maenad, wearing a stylised chiton fastened below her breasts by a belt. Above the belt, the garment is bloused to form a kolpos. Her hair is covered by a kekryphalos. She is draped in a diaphanous garment pinned at the shoulders, bedecked with bracelets, a beaded necklace, drop earrings, and ribbons. She holds a thyrsus in her left hand and a pyxis in her right. Facing her on the left, a naked youth, his head adorned with curly coiffure and a himation draped over his outstretched left arm. He holds a thyrsus and a patera. The B-side shows two facing draped youths in conversation. Both of them holding a staffs. The vessel featuring a stylised composite palmettes beneath each handle, frets surrounding the handle terminals, a register of meander below the scenes. Cf.
