Ca. 100-300 AD. A massive silver ring is composed of a wide hoop that expands at the shoulders to form a flat bezel, which is set with a raised, oval-shaped frame. Within the frame is a gold 'dextrarum iunctio' motif, which depicts two people offering each other their right hands. This motif is a common symbol of union and marriage in the fine arts, and suggests that the ring may have been used as a Roman wedding ring. Cf. The British Museum, Museum number 1911,1026.1.Size: D: 17.13mm / US: 6 3/4 / UK: N 1/2; 19.14gProvenance: From the collection of a Surrey gentleman, acquired on the German Art market around 2015.
