The figures are portrayed in an upright stance, with their heads and bodies slightly inclined towards each other, creating a sense of intimacy and shared sorrow. Their garments are rendered with intricate folds and drapery, adding a sense of realism to the figures. The cameo is mounted onto a highly ornamented gold brooch setting, which features a radiating border consisting of pelta-shaped motifs. The pelta was a common motif in ancient Greek and Roman art, symbolizing the shield of the goddess Artemis.
