A PAIR OF JAPANESE FOLIATE DISHES EDO PERIOD, 1670-1700 Both decorated in underglaze blue, gilt and red enamel with a five-petal flower to the centre and radiating panels to the cavetto enclosing further blooms and leafy sprays; both painted to the reverse with karakusa scrolls and a single character mark, both 18.2cm. (2) Cf. M Fitski, Kakiemon Porcelain, A Handbook, p.165, where a similar mark is illustrated. Although the author explains that the character is unidentified, it occurs on Nangawara pieces produced between 1670-1700.
