Ca. 17th-19th century AD. A brass circular disc adorned with intricate Arabic inscriptions. The disc is pierced for suspension or attachment, adding to its versatility and allowing it to be displayed in a variety of settings. Islamic metal discs such as this one were often used for religious or decorative purposes. The dense inscriptions on the obverse of this particular disc suggest that it may have been used for spiritual or protective purposes, perhaps as a talisman to ward off evil or to bring blessings to its owner.Size: L:205mm / W:205mm ; 930gProvenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly in a collection of A. Kotlar, since the 1970s.
