A NAGALAND BEADED SASH WITH BRASS BELLS, c. 1900sNagaland, India/Burma, early 20th century. Made from a combination of beige and black cloth to create a striking linear pattern, half of the sash has been stitched with multicolored glass beads and the lower border is sewed to the middle and left side with five strings of multi-colored glass beads supporting large brass bells, which create an appealing sound when the sash is moved or shaken.Condition: Good condition with expected traces of use, wear, few loose threads, and some beads lost as well as one of the bells. Provenance: Romy Rey Collection, London. Romy Rey (1938-2020) was born in Zurich, Switzerland, studied in Paris and Geneva, and settled in London in the 1960s. She shared her life with the artist Brian Davies (1942-2014), in London and in Southern France. Romy was an avid traveler and dedicated collector of tribal art. Her paintings often portrayed images of ancient or tribal objects in imaginary settings.
