2nd-1st millennium BC. A group of three stone artefacts comprising: one white stone quadruped amulet with ring and dot eyes, pierced twices through the body; and two accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which state: (2007) 'Cuboid stamp seal of black stone, 17 x 14 x 13mm. This has four faces, all engraved, and is pierced from top to bottom in the two unengraved surfaces. it is a very rough cube in form. Three faces have the shorter edges for top and bottom: (i) a standing quadruped with large horns; (ii) a standing quadruped with head turned back; (iii) a quadruped standing on its hind legs and grasping pole with one front paw; the other face, has the longer edge for top and bottom and shows a standing quadruped with trough beneath its mouth. This comes from west-central Asia, and dates to c. 1000-300 B.C. most probably. It is worn, but the designs can be made out.'; (W-90) 'Bifacial Stamp Seal of Dark Stone, 21 x 28 x 8mm. This is an oblong plaque, pierced through two opposite corners. Each side has a similar design: a standing quadruped with dots of various sizes around, and notched edges. The edges are also filled with large dots. This comes from west central Asia or eastern Iran and dates to c. 2000-1000 B.C. It is a rare type and in quite good condition, being only a little worn.' 27.5 grams total, 17-29mm (3/4-1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection numbers 2007, W-90, 2926, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
