1st millennium BC-2nd century AD. A mixed group of bronze rings including two accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which state: (R-799) 'Ancient Finger Ring of Bronze, 15 x 20 x 20.5mm. This has a broad hoop thinning at the edges, and narrowing as it reaches the bezel, which is roughly round and flat. On it is engraved a prancing horse with mane well marked and tail raised. There is a vertical stroke in front of this horse. This comes from west central Asia and is difficult to date precisely for lack of study of such objects hitherto. most probably it dates to c. 1500-500 B.C., though it could be a little later. It is a nice specimen of its kind, and in very good condition.'; (K-42) 'Signet Ring of Bronze, Bezel: 10 x 10mm, with hoop: 23 x 19.5mm. This has a thin hoop, which broadens where the solid bezel is attached. the design on the bezel shows a standing bird with feathers rising from its tail and bending over its back. This is reported to have come from west central Asia, which is entirely possible, and though it is difficult to date, c. 200 b.C. to 200 A.D. is perhaps the most likely. It is in fine condition.' 149 grams total, 21-34mm (1-1 1/4"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection numbers K-42, R-799, 4019, Z-30, Z-31, Z-32, Z-36, Z-38, Z-40, Z-41, Z-42, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s. [11] Fine condition.
