3rd millennium BC. A finely polished axe in green-black diorite with convex cutting edge tapering to rounded butt, with slightly eccentric drilling to receive handle. Cf. Evans, Sir John, The Ancient Stone Implements, Weapons and Ornaments of Great Britain, London, 2nd edition, 1897, figure 127. 260 grams, 10.5cm (4"). From the London collection of Aleksey Vinokurov, formed from the 1920s-1951; collection number 24, found near Karise, Denmark in 1936; acquired in Copenhagen in 1950; accompanied by a copy of the collection inventory dated 1951. Very fine condition.
