23rd-18th century BC. A mixed group of five bronze seals comprising: one discoid with eagle(?), inverted U-shape handle to the reverse; and four accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which state: (T-567) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 54 x 54 x 16mm. This is rhomb-shape, with somewhat zig-zag edges. The face is flat and compartmented, the back is also flat, with handle of inverted V-shape mounted in the middle, the design consists of a central Greek cross, the ends of the arms of which are open and end with a smaller Greek cross each. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. the metal has been conserved and save for a little wearing of the edges the piece is in very good condition.'; (T-715) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 39 x 38 x 26mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a stalk handle with round loop on top, now broken. The design on the face, mostly in raised lines, consist of a central dot and two pairs of V-shapes filling each quarter, one V within the other. One inner V only has a short vertical strut within it. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2000-1800 B.C. There is wear to the outer rim, and the handle is broken, but otherwise it is in good condition.'; (T-879) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 43 x 32 x 19mm. This is roughly round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design is compartmented and consists of a standing quadruped with head turned back, with filling shapes around. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. The metal has been conserved and the piece is in good condition save that the portion below the animal's body is lacking.'; (T-895) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 39 x 39 x 13mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle pierced for suspension. The design, which is compartmented, shows an insect with long oval body and two pairs of legs, spaces being filled with four crescents based on the rim. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is in very good condition and has a rare design.' 149 grams total, 34-54mm (1 1/4-2"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection numbers T-895, T-879, T-715, T-567, U-481, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
