Hand Painted Lobby CardsSet of 3 Hand Painted Lobby Card Prints❖ Aan (2)- 1952, Dimensions: 37.0 x 48.0 cm❖ Tapasya – 1976, Dimensions: 17.5 x 25.5 cmThis exclusively curated lot is dedicated to the old era of Bollywood, when movie promotions were hand painted and uniquely eye catchy. Each hand painted still took weeks to gain perfection. Their life like quality is in sharp contrast with the vibrant colours employed, which only enhances the appeal. Lobby cards or mounted movie stills are the rarer set of memorabilia collectibles, as they were produced in much lower nos. This makes them highly collectible and more sought- after items among collectors.Initially produced by Hollywood, Lobby cards became one of the mainstays of Bollywood promotions along with posters and synopsis. They generally feature one or more photographic stills along with details of the production house, movie name and often some text and were produced in sets of 8 initially and later, up to 20. Lobby cards played an important role not only in promoting the films but also in bringing stardom to actors, gradually moving away from just stills of films to featuring protagonists as well. One would find femininity of female actors being delicately showcased, as well as the valor of male actors. Initially only black and white, they gradually moved to colored ones, with the advent of colour cinema.
